Rules at Northwoods Range

At Northwoods Range, safety is our top priority. Always shoot directly downrange into the berm and use eye and ear protection. Place targets only at the foot of the berm and avoid attaching them to wooden uprights. Pack out everything you bring in and do not use high-power rifles on gongs. Exploding targets and shooting beyond 300 yards are prohibited. Alcohol is only allowed after shooting and never on the firing lines. Follow all posted rules to avoid expulsion and ensure a safe, courteous experience. For any infractions, contact a Range Officer or dial 911 in emergencies.

RULES:

  • Direct Firing Only: You must shoot directly downrange into a berm. ABSOLUTELY NO FIRING ACROSS THE RANGE AT ANY TIME.

  • Eye and Ear Protection: Eye and ear protection are always required for you and your guests while on the range.

  • Target Placement: Never place targets on the ground in front of berms, as this can result in ricochets. ONLY place targets at the foot of the berm. Safety first – we have neighbors to consider.

  • Target Attachments: Do not attach targets to or in front of wooden uprights. Use only the provided backboards or chicken wire. No plastic or glass targets are permitted.

  • Pack-It-In/Pack-It-Out: Please pick up any targets, empty ammunition boxes, or food containers and dispose of them in provided trash containers or take them with you when you leave.

  • High-Power Rifles: Do not use high-power rifles (e.g., .50 caliber) to shoot gongs. These can destroy the metal gongs and ruin the range for others.

  • Exploding Targets: Exploding targets (e.g., Tannerite) are NOT ALLOWED.

  • Shooting Distance: Shooting further than 300 yards is NOT ALLOWED.

Range Closure:

  • The Northwoods Range may close occasionally for law enforcement, military, special events, training classes, or maintenance. Closures will occur as deemed necessary.

Prohibited Guests and Rules:

  • Individuals prohibited by law from possessing firearms are not allowed to use the Northwoods Range facilities.

  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted on firing lines at any time. Alcoholic beverages are only allowed after you have finished shooting.

  • All members and guests must comply with posted rules. Non-compliance will result in expulsion from the range, revocation of membership, and a permanent ban from rejoining.

  • Members and guests must conduct themselves in a SAFE and COURTEOUS manner. Be aware of your surroundings and neighbors while using the range. This range belongs to all of us.

  • Report any infractions to a Range Officer (info@northwoods-range.com). In the event of an immediate threat or danger, dial 911. Ignoring infractions is not a solution.
